A proposed shopping facility at the Boone Gardiner Nursery site in the Village of Eastwood will include a full service grocery among its tenants in a one-of-a-kind English architecture styled village. Its unique construction will promote a village atmosphere which will contribute to maintaining the rural charm of Eastwood. Neighborhood type shops such as dry cleaners, a hair salon, specialty coffee shop, small restaurant and a bank will be included. “This will be a welcome addition to our community; something we have needed for a long time”, said Brent Davenport who has been a resident of Eastwood for over 50 years. “The architecture makes it look like it’s a little English village, and it’s perfect for Eastwood”, was the reaction of Peter Finnis, a nearby resident who grew up in England.
The proposed shopping village will have attractive green areas including a small park with a fountain, benches and walking paths to promote a relaxed "country" atmosphere. According to real estate professionals who have seen the plans, the quality of the entire project will be unique to Louisville and to Kentucky. The Shoppes at Gardiner Park will provide for much needed local shopping for residents of Eastwood and the neighboring communities, and should definitely give a boost to property values throughout the entire area. Pictures of the proposed shops and grocery can be viewed here.
A grocery company has not yet been named by the developers, but interested candidates have said they will offer full services, including their own bakery, meat, fish, cheese and produce departments, and will conduct cooking classes on Saturdays. In addition to a full range of standard grocery items, the grocery will stock an attractive selection of gourmet items, all at competitive prices. A full service grocery in Eastwood will offer a much needed comparable alternative to existing stores beyond the Snyder Freeway.
